VFW Post 1 has a remarkable history—but its greatest value isn't simply that it was first. It's that it continues to evolve.
For generations, the traditional VFW Post has often been associated with a canteen, a place to gather with fellow veterans, and a place to share stories. Those things still have value. But today's veterans need more.
Post 1 has embraced a broader vision of what a VFW Post can be: a place where veterans connect with one another, where wellness and community are part of the mission, and where partnerships extend the Post's ability to serve.
That evolution isn't a rejection of the VFW's traditions. It's the tradition of the VFW.
The organization was created by veterans who recognized that their generation's needs required action. They advocated for veterans and fought for the benefits and recognition they had earned.
Today's veterans face different challenges. The responsibility is the same.
